A-Z Fruit and Veg Photo Project: J is for Jalapeño
I didn’t opt for fresh jalapeños for this shoot, as I had a jar of these hotties preserved sitting in my fridge – handy!
Really thinking about what I wanted to convey in these photos, I decided to use direct light and utilise the highlights and shadows that would be created. I wanted the highlights to show off the shine from the jalapeños – as they have been stewing in their own spicy juices for months!
Being the Einstein that I am, I didn’t wash my hands after the shoot, ( I only wiped them, so as not to get juices on the camera), and I inevitably rubbed my eyes later on and yep, you guessed it – ouch!

What are your thoughts on the highlights and direct light? Does it add feeling for you? I get a bit nervous when I am shooting away from the ‘light and airy’ look?!
What is this all about?

this is one of my favourites so far. wow. and the color contrast of the jalapenos.
Great! Thanks. I’m so happy with the way it turned out. I was struggling with how to take a photo of the jar of jalapenos – ‘take them out perhaps’? Sometimes I forget to look outside the box, but eventually it came!
I like the second pic a lot – the shine on the red piece of jalapeño, and especially that translucent part of the bottom of the jar!
Yes the shine! Amazes me how something so simple creates something so special! I’m glad you noticed the bottom of the jar!
Amazing photography! I myself love food and photography…too bad Im not an amazing photographer. That’s why I nominated you for a Liesbter award.
Well thank you! They are such a wonderful combination aren’t they. You have a lovely blog and your photos are well on their way. You have some great compositions!
Well thank you, I will definetly look to your blog photos for inspiration!
